The most WONDERFUL last day!

My last day was so wonderful, if I can say that about "the end".  I’m so sad to be leaving these kids- it about broke my heart to hear their goodbyes!

However, they made my last day completely wonderful.  M and G schemed with the class to throw me a baby shower, and they did an awesome job keeping it a secret! I was "kicked out" of the class for the morning, and at lunch time M told me to just make a beeline to the lounge and wait there for awhile and they’d come get me.  So a bit after lunch M came and got me and when I walked into the class the kids jumped up from hiding beside their desks and they were all wearing blue shirts, they had made two HUGE signs for me and they had ice cream cake from TCBY, punch and lots of presents for the baby.  I was just absolutely amazed that they would do this for me!  More than that, I couldn’t believe some of the gifts the kids brought for me.  M and G said they had wanted to get a small item from each student and make a sort of gift basket from the class, but quite a few parents sent in some pretty nice $20 to $30 gifts- I’d never have expected that!

The end of the day was pretty sad, I got a picture with the class and as they were lining up for the bus many of them were hugging me and were telling me how much they are going to miss me.  I nearly broke down, but was able to hold it together.  I am going to have to go back in and see them in the next month or so.  I feel so attached to each and every one of them.

  1. What a wonderful surprise they made for you! I don’t know how you held back the tears, girl! That is so incredibly sweet! I know this is funny but when I looked at your class picture my first thought was, “they’re all white!” How different than what I am used to with teaching in the inner-city…although my local schools look just like this one!
