lots of little updates….

  • Our house is a disaster area.  Ryan tore out the ceiling in our bedroom because it was damaged from a leak.  He also built a closet in our bedroom, because we are in desparate need of more closet space in this house.  Out came the carpeting in there also.  We’re staying in the guest room, and our dressers and belongings from our bedroom are strewn throughout the livingroom and tiny guest room. Yuck.

While I was in Georgia and Ryan was on bedroom demolition, he also decided to surprise me with a new kitchen countertop.  We got a color called Labrador Granite- it is black with tan/brown marbling in it.  Its not real granite- we’re too poor for that- but it looks darn close.  I decided that the new countertop deserved a kitchen with a new coat of paint.  Our kitchen was a burnt orange color, now it is a light tan like our living room. I also painted our kitchen table and chairs black to mirror the furniture in our livingroom.  So now the kitchen and livingroom really flow together.  I still need one more coat of paint on the walls in the kitchen and then the ceiling needs to be repainted.  Our house is a mess!

  • I went to the doctor Tuesday about my head again.  For the last few months I’ve been getting these really weird headrushes every so often.  It feels like a horrible icecream headache… only worse.  It happens a lot when I stand up or move quickly.  However, it wasn’t happening that often so I didn’t think anything of it.  Once I got back from GA I was getting the headrushes frequently… my migrane medication wasn’t stopping them and I was freaking out that maybe I had a brain aneurism (sp).  I went to Dr. Robertson and basically he doesn’t know whats wrong with me.  He had me get an EKG and xray of my spine/head and I have a MRI scheduled for June 5 to make sure I don’t have a bleed in my head.  My bloodpressure was a concern for him… it was 116/84 which he said was high for someone my age.  When I have a migrane my bp is usually really high (like 140/94) but I didn’t have a migrane yesterday when they took my bp.  So… I’m on a second medication for my bloodpressure.  Yay.  I’m like an old person with high bloodpressure.  Great. I went back today to get my bp checked again and it was completely normal- 120/64.  So, hopefully either the medication is working or something.
  • Wednesday I met with Christy and Rhonda from Scrapjazz… Rhonda lives in Lansing and I’m going to be doing her daughter’s senior pictures this summer.  Christy lives in Royal Oak, I think (or at least somewhere near Detroit), and we met in Lansing at the Scrapbook Store to shop and chat.  It was really fun!  Its so neat how you can make so many friends through the internet… seems weird, but at least its through a scrapbook website- everyone is pretty genuine.  Scrapjazz is a wonderful little community.

  • I’ve been really bad about Weight Watchers lately.  You really can’t diet on vacation, and the week before I went to GA I was really naughty.  Good news is I haven’t gained any weight… I’m still 6lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight, and 12lbs from my goal weight.  Ugh.  I need to buckle down- isn’t that what I keep saying?  OHH I found awesome Weight Watcher desserts at WalMart the other day. YUM.  Very low points, too.
  • I start subbing on Monday… I’m very very excited about it.  Up until today I was kind of wishing I hadn’t taken the temporary job- it kind of messes with me babysitting for Lauren (not that I babysit all that much, but I feel like I have asked to be able to watch the girls, and now I’m inconveniencing her for 3 weeks, know what I mean?), and I am sad to leave Porter.  However, I stopped in the class today to pick up materials for the following weeks so I can plan my lessons etc… and I immediately knew I was ready to be in the class again.  I can’t explain it- it just feels like home. Like I belong there, sitting in the teacher’s chair, wandering the classroom, tending to the kids, organizing and planning their day.  I am really excited to go back!  I hope that this will give me a foot in the door if there happens to be any sort of position open this fall.
  • I took some dah-ling pictures of Porter today, well, *I* think they’re awesome.  I’m still playing around with Photoshop, hoping to get the hang of it soon.  Conversions are tricky for me, trying to get that perfect contrast of black and white, the perfect color balance.  Here is are two of my favorites…
