Whats for dinner?

I swear, we are SO boring when it comes to meals.  Here is what our dinners consist of (when we do cook)

*Chicken (usually grilled)
*Spaghetti and garlic bread
*Beef Tips and Noodles
*Grilled Cheese
*Hot Dogs
*BLT’s
*Scrambled Eggs and Bacon
*Manicotti/lasagna
*More Spaghetti
*More Chicken
*Pizza
*Tacos
*Scrounge (aka… whatever you can find in the kitchen)

Wow.  Do we eat like 8 year olds or what???

Cooking just seems like such a waste of time.  We’re pretty picky eaters, and even when we do find recipes that seem good, they either take forever or have 20 different ingredients. I looked at the Rachel Ray website and there are tons of 30 minute meals… I can do that… but MAN!  It’d cost $40 just to buy all the ingredients for one meal. (What the hell is hoisen sauce or tumeric or where do you buy saffron threads anyway?) For that price we can take our butts out to eat and have a meal cooked FOR us!

So… here is my plea for help. What are some DIFFERENT dinners that we could make?  Different but EASY and not too "different". I HATE anything creamy… like alfredo sauce or stuff like that.  It needs to be quick and easy. And not have 20 different ingredients for me to have to hunt down at the store.  HEEEELLLLLPPPPP!

  1. You guys eat the same things we do, so I’m no help…lol. Okay, we do beef stew instead of beef tips and noodles sometimes. Haha! If you find any good ideas, ya better send them my way! 🙂

  2. Nic, Get on Craft foods.com and subscribe to their magazine. It comes quarterly. I love their recipes. They are the type of recipes that you will have most of the ingredients already in the house…quick, simple, easy and delicious.

  3. look on the back of soup cans…seriously. a can of soup, rice, chicken and some mixed veggies make a great quick meal. put all that in a dish, put it in the oven and viola…a meal in no time. my husband even makes these kinds of meals. check out campbells soup cans…they are quick and easy! i hate the kitchen too so i know where you are coming from.

  4. Here are a few of our favorite easy or make ahead dishes… ask for recipes if you want.
-lemon pork with beans and carrots in the crock pot
    -mini meatloaves
-Zataran’s jambalaya rice mix we add smoked sausage
    -bbq chicken pizza
    -steak or chicken fajitas

I do love Rachael Ray’s recipes… you can find lots of them with everyday ingredients and they are so simple. one of my favorites of hers-

I ALWAYS get compliments when I make those.
They are great hot or cold, I especially like them cut up on a salad. (btw, I don’t bother getting out the food processor, I use honey nut cheerios and I just put everything in a ziplock freezer bag and crush with a rolling pin and shake to mix.)

  5. I totally feel you pain. We eat the same things over & over!! I have a few I can send you. Taco Soup (way good and super easy), chicken enchiladas, & baked ziti. I’ll try to send them to you this weekend. If I forget, email me and remind me.

  6. Get Doritos (crushed), shredded mexican sheese, ground beef, catalina dressing and lettuce. Shake it all up together and have a really awesome Taco salad. The cold version you use Cool Ranch Doritos and ranch dressing with the ground beef and cheese. Kids LOVE it too!!

  7. Oh I have a good one. Cold spaghetti salad. Boil a pot of spaghetti and when the noodles are done and strained run cold water over them and strain. Then place the cold the noodles in a giant bowl and add black olives, tomatoes, mozzarella shredded cheese and Italian dressing and mix! It is delicious, quick and best of all SIMPLE! I am NOT a cook either!

  8. I second the Kraft subscription idea. I can’t wait for the next one to come in the mail…and it’s totally FREE. You can pretty much poor bbq sauce over anything in the crock pot. I usually do ribs, chicken, or pork chops. Put it in FROZEN, poor the bbq sauce over it and let it cook away. Allrecipes.com is a great source as well.

  9. Do you have a crockpot? I swear mine saves my life sometimes…You can make anything in there and it’s so easy because you just make it up, then let it cook itself! I make potroast all the time.

    Chuck roast
    Redskin potatoes
    Baby Carrots
    Beef Boulion
    Onion
Italian Seasoning and Black Pepper to taste
    Cook for 6 hrs.
It’s about a $15 meal which would be enough for dinner then left overs. Jeff and I love it! http://www.tastycrockpotrecipes.net/
