I’ve “enabled him to forever be attached to that stupid dinosaur”

says my not so amused husband.

Porter spent the afternoon at Nana and Papa Barczak’s house, and they took him to McDonalds for dinner.  When they dropped him back off at home, he had some of his apple dippers left, and the caramel package (unopened, of course) was on the coffee table.

It was close to his bedtime (around 7:30) and Ry was busy making dinner for the two of us and my mom.  Porter comes toddling across the living room, trailing CARAMEL across the floor, on Rocky and all over himself!  Ohhh boy. He had pushed in the top of the little packet of carmel.  Now, how is it that those things are SO hard to open when you are actually trying, but a 15 month old attempts to dink with it and busts it in?

Anyway, we got the mess cleaned up and I told him "Uh oh no Rocky tonight.  He needs to have a bath."

Now, normally Rocky isn’t "that big of a deal" to him.   He only pays attention to Rocky (or "Rahh KKKkk" as Porter says…. roll that nasally K sound HAHA!) when its "nigh nigh" time. He likes to bring him out to the couch in the mornings and snuggle with him while he watches tv, but after he’s fired up for the day, he parts ways with Rocky until naptime.

Well, I put Rocky by the back steps to the basement, and Porter kept going to get him.  I finally tossed him over the baby gate so Porter couldn’t reach him.  Porter leaned into the gate, desperately trying to reach through to grab Rocky, saying "nigh nigh!  RocKKKK!"

I finally said "Porter, no, Rocky has to have a bath." and I opened the gate to go downstairs and put Rocky in the washer.

Porter FELL.  APART.

He started bawling, grasped the gate and fell to his knees.

He stood back up, did a little desperate-I-don’t-know-what-to-do spin, and started BLOWING KISSES to Rocky and saying "Buh BYYYYYEEE!  Buhh BYYYYEE  MUAHHH MUAAAHHH" (muahh being the kiss noise he makes)

Oh my word did my heart break into a million pieces.

So, I brought Rocky back up and Porter helped me give him a bath in the bathroom sink, as I listened to my husband heckle me…. "You enabler.  You just enabled him to forever love that dinosaur!  He’ll never go anywhere without it!!"

HAHAHA!

I think its sweet, the little attachment he has with Rocky.

I love how when I get him out of bed in the morning he grabs Rocky, makes sure he has the "head and front legs" part of the blanket and hooks him right on his shoulder.  This is how he carries him… draped over his shoulder as if he’s a baby or something.

So cute.

  1. That is too freaking cute. M is the same though only he has his posse – it includes a beaker doll, a grover, a small bear, a random receiving blanket and this weird bird thing that chirps. Oh and that doesn’t include his 2 babies. Ay yi yi. I had to break the attachment to the Cookie Monster that was the size of him as it took up too much room in the crib!!

  2. My son is only 5 months and is already so attached to a little dog blankie “lovey” that I had to order a 2nd one specifically so I could rotate them out for washings. I am actually going to order a 3rd one to put up so that we have it in the future as a “just in case” back up as I see this adoration for a lovey following him into the next few years. He seriously has it with him all the time!
(BTW…I read your blog daily and just love your little Porter!)

  3. OK, this is a little crazy.. Tiegan has the same kind of stuffy that we call “Miss Bun Bun” (Tiegan calls her “buh buh”). It looks exactly like Rocky except it’s pink, and a bunny. And she HAS to have it to sleep. LOL!
