So, my Thoughts on Thursday post this week is inspired by my cell phone. The other night I noticed the antenna was cracked, and the tip of it actually pulled off… the plastic cracked and broke off the top of the metal antenna rod inside (ok, so I suck at explaining things). Anyway, I decided to super glue it back on because, well, the thought of a metal antenna rod sticking out in my purse just was weird. In the process, I glued the tip of my finger, glued the tip of the antenna to my counter, dropped it about 72 times before finally getting it ON the antenna and in place again.
Hopefully it still works.
I think, though, that I’m going to look into buying a new phone… really! I’ve had this one for a few years, and the on/off button is hard to use and its dinged up and now the antenna casing is super glued on HAHA!
Now, here’s where my thoughts come in. When I signed up for my plan I got a "free phone" with it. I’m sure it was the cheapest phone available and, well, whatever. Thats the one I got and the one I’m still using. I have a friend that, awhile back, was obsessed with cell phones that they were scouring eBay for this $300 phone…. I remember thinking "What the heck… I have lots of other things I could spend $300 on!" I’m only worried about these things when I choose a cell phone…
Does it ring? yep
Does it have caller id? good
Does it save my contacts phone numbers? sweet
Does it have voice mail? I’ll take it.
Seriously, what does the $300 phone do that you can’t live without that my free one doesn’t?
So, what kind of cell phone person are you? Do you just take whatever phone is cheapest or comes with your rate plan, or are you always changing phones? Do you keep up with whatever is "coolest" at the moment and have to have it? Are you constantly changing phones or do you just stick with one for a long time?
Well, you know what I’ll be looking for on my search… my above criteria and a CHEAP price tag HAHA!
Oh, I forgot… follow the other Thoughts on Thursday posters..

Anyone else want to join us??

Well- lets see…
I have owned many a cell phone and I renew everytime my contract is about to expire. This last time I did a little upgrade and paid $50 for a better phone than the free one and I love my phone. But I really do not understand buying the $300+ cell phones unless you are needing to get email and do business all day on the phone. I am LOVING the new iphone, but i dont need it!!! I just go play with it at the Apple store. :O) There is no way i would pay $500 or $600 for it- totally outrageous!
We just get the free/cheapest phones that come with resigning our contracts. I’ve been through a few, but only because with a certain phone (I loved it, and didn’t want to give up that style) my speaker kept going out, so they kept replacing my phone for me.
We usually get the $40-$50 phones with rebates. I think this last time I got $100 phone and it only had a $50 rebate or something. And I had a hard time justifying that, but I was just not impressed with their most basic phone this time.
I think it’s kind of funny when people get new phones all the time and have to have the latest and greatest, including covers and rings and such! I just don’t think of my phone as an accessory… it’s just my phone.
Nic, Jade has a nextel that is paid for by his dad. I used to have a nextel and on average, our bill was around 60 bucks. I was starting to go over minutes and the bill was climbing around 80. It was getting dumb. We cancelled it and I now use a pre-paid phone. I love it. I love not having that extra phone bill a month. It’s money we can use elsewhere. At first, I knew I would miss getting into the car and getting on the phone. Now, I don’t miss it. Sometimes it drives me nuts when people talk and drive. It’s just one of those things that I didn’t want to pay for anymore and I definitely don’t miss spending that much money a month.
your blog subject reminds me of that song from South Pacific… “talky talky talky talky happy talk… talk about things you liiike toooo doooo…” haha. Okay so I used to be a theatre geek.
ANYWAY…
I’m not all that phone-crazy. I do love to drool over the next technology and it might be fun to brag about the latest & greatest if I had the money, but I don’t, and… I just don’t care that much. My checklist is pretty much the same as yours. I actually have a Razr and the only reason is because it was a gift from my mom! I would have otherwise picked out one of the “free” phones, which I’ve always done in the past.
well, i have a ‘blackberry’ type phone (with the full keypad that swings out) because my work gave it to me and pays for it. it’s nice because i can check my email if i want to. but, it annoys the crap out of me because it does all this other stuff, but it really sucks as a PHONE! if i were to buy my own i would just get something plain. i’ve never really understood camera phones, i mean, i love taking pictures, but with my phone?!? hmm.
I usually get the free one that comes with renewing the contract, but I like the other ones with all the gadgets and stuff. The one I have now is pink but it is pretty basic. No pictures, just the regular type of phone and I like it. I am ready for a new one though (I get bored with them easily)…. 🙂
I have whatever Don got me….I’m clueless when it comes to cell phone plans, I would probably be that dumb girl who got scammed into a pricey plan!! But, knowing Don he gets whatever is cheapest. I could care less, as long as it works it’s good for me. I actually like to keep the same phone for as long as I can, because then I know how to use it, I’ve figured everything out & I’m happy….why change it….here’s my “creature of habit” nature again. LOL!
oh goodness.
i am totally with you on this one. all i need for a phone to do is make phone calls and text. lol.
so, no. i don’t need all the fad phones. my 29.99 phone works just as well!
have a good day!

I’m not one to use my phone unless I have to. We always get our phones free, usually by rebate. The first thing I usually check out is http://www.lowermybills.com. We found an awesome package with the phones that we’ve had for almost 2 years now. We got 2 phones, 2 ear buds w/ mic, and 2 bluetooth ear buds w/ mic for FREE!
