Almost halfway there…

Yes, I said almost halfway.  Almost halfway done with my student teaching THANK THE GOOD LORD ABOVE!  I am not sure how I’ll make it to Christmas, but I’m positive that if I can make it to then I’ll be just fine.  Today was my first "real" full day teaching.  I haven’t updated much since my first week in the hell hole of a school, but the first week was horrid, there was lots of drama between me, my university supervisor and my cooperating teacher at the school, but finally we decided that until Thanksgiving I’d only teach Science for 3rd and 4th hours and after Thanksgiving I’d add the Math class.  So, things were great, and actually last week I didn’t teach at all because A (the teacher I’m teaching with) let me use the 2 1/2 day week to work on my portfolio (the THIRD one that the university is freakin requiring— how GAY).  Anyway, I’ve decided that middleschoolers are schizophrenics.  One day they’re all sweet and act good, and the next day they act like someone lit a rocket up their butt and they are mad at the world.  Man its nuts.  Ryan said it sounds like living with a pregnant woman. HA HA HA.  (read that ha ha ha very sarcastically).  Today, 3rd hour was horrid.  If I’d followed the procedure of the teacher in the class and sent the kids out to the hall when they were being remotely rude/disrespectful then I’d have had the whole class in the hall about 15 minutes into the hour.  Yes, thats how rotten they were.  But, good news!  Tomorrow is a new day and who the hell knows- they’ll probably be angels.  Thats just how it goes.  I kept getting down on myself and questioning what I’m doing as far as classroom management and discipline, but A had told me numerous times that its not me, that even the seasoned, 20 year teachers have a hard time with that specific group of students (they’re referred to by the special ed team teachers as the "Yahoos").  These kids are basically singled out from the other LD students and were grouped into a certian hour because the other kids couldn’t learn in that class.  Oh my I’m totally going off on a tangent.

Ok so new subject.  Our tree is up, obviously, and we have it decorated.  I turned on the Christmas cd’s and decided to decorate the living room (I don’t put Xmas decorations anywhere else in the  house, really) and try to get into the holiday spirit.  Didn’t really work, but I think the tree looks so nice.  I only used red and gold ribbon, bead garland and ornaments on the tree and it looks suuuuper.  Looks like it should belong in a store window!  Ryan was bummed that I wouldn’t let him put any of our "fun" ornaments on the tree this year, but I’m in such a particular mood lately that I wanted it my way and thats how it is.  He’s being such a good hubby and putting up with my psychoticness.

Speaking of which… I’ve decided we need to redo our kitchen.  Right now it is ORANGE…  a deep orange with kind of a burnt red/orange glaze over it and bright fun pictures and french words written around the top of the wall all around the room.  Well, I think I need to get more "Traditional" as my father in law would say. However, I am NOT admitting to becoming ‘traditional’- I simply think I need a more SOPHISTICATED kitchen. So, we found a black "granite" (fake!) countertop that has kind of dark tan/gold in it and I’m painting the walls a light tan that the living room is and the wall that the window is on is going to be a slightly darker tan.  I’ll then hang a few black picture frames with black and white photos (or maybe some cool old vintage Cafe or french looking pictures… not sure yet) and I’m going to paint our kitchen table and chairs.  The table and chairs are white with the light wood tabletop and seats, which I will leave the light wood color, but the legs and chairbacks I’m going to paint black.  So, the kitchen and living room (which has black furniture/black and silver frames) will look more unified.  I’ll probably pull in some deep red and deep orange accents into the kitchen, like the livingroom has.  Hmm.. I have some livingroom pictures on the computer but something is wrong with typepad or something and I can’t upload them… maybe later.

  1. I’m sorry your teaching is so rough this time around. Hang in there…you’re almost done!

Love the ideas for your kitchen. It sounds like we have the same taste. We’re doing something similar in the new house. I’ll post pics when it gets to that point…if it ever gets to that point! Ha! Anyway, you need to post a pic of your tree! I bet it looks awesome!
