Poor Bailey…

We went to Ryan’s basketball game tonight (his team played my school… 3 of my students were on Parkside’s team) and when we got home the lady across the street stopped by and asked if the tan and white cat was ours. Well, there are 2 tan/white cats in the neighborhood… Bailey and this other cat that fights with Bailey.  She said one of them got hit this morning and she pulled them to the side of the road so they wouldn’t get squashed.  We walked over and sure enough it was Bailey.

I feel horrible that his last days were outside and lonely… I hardly ever pet him (although yesterday I did make an effort to scratch his back on my way up the porch stairs) and every day I told him his life must suck b/c he peed on my couch (which is true…).  I was not so nice to him the last few months or so.  I just feel really bad that he was probably wondering why we turned our backs on him and left him outside, cold and lonely.  He was old, about 11 or so, and I’m kind of surprised he didn’t freeze in December when the temps were like 12* out.  Anyway, he’s gone to kitty heaven and Ryan is going to bury him tomorrow after work. Thank goodness its been in the 40’s and 50’s lately and the ground is probably somewhat thawed.

So, here’s to you Bailey, I hope you didn’t suffer and that you are in a better place now.
