No Poop

Porter hasn’t pooped in 3 days.

I’m getting worried.

Up until today he didn’t act like he was bothered by it, but this evening he got a bit cranky and I think maybe his tummy is bothering him. Poor kid is probably all blocked up!

I took Jess’s advice and stuck a thermometer up his butt.  Twice.  But nothing happened.  Other than him farting in my face which made me gag so bad I threw up a little in my throat.

I feel really bad for him.  If there’s no poop in his diaper in the morning, I think I’m definitely calling the doctor. I’m scared his intestines are going to blow up inside him.

And, yes, I did try prunes and prune juice.  He ate a whole jar of prunes yesterday as well as a few ounces of prune apple juice.  No movement, though.

Ugh.  Poor kid.

  1. Dude, don’t worry – 3 days isn’t bad at all. They go less around this age for some weird reason. Morgan only went every second day until he really hit the crazy teething and now it’s at least twice a day. A friends little guy (he was around 6 – 7 months) didn’t go for a week and when he did – OMG. He filled a sleeper to the tips of it’s toes!!!

Oh and solids really slow things down too, which is probably what’s happening. Are you giving him rice cereal? If so, try the oatmeal one instead.

  2. just stick with the prunes… they’ll work eventually. warm baths are supposed to help and if you notice him trying to go, or if his tummy seems upset you can “bicycle” his legs for a bit to help get things moving. call your doctor if you’re concerned, but if it helps at all, know that babies get constipated alot. especially now that he’s on solids. if you’re desperate, I have some fiber powder (metamucel I think) my ped. had me add to Sawyer’s bottles when he was real little and would get too constipated.
and be forewarned… when it does come out- it’ll all come out!!

  3. Sometimes adding a little bit of corn syrup to a bottle of milk can help. But like everyone else has posted-be careful!!! When it happens it can be the opposite effect. Good luck 🙂

  4. Try a glycerin suppository. You can get them over the counter at the drugstore. It will work immediately and will not hurt him a bit. We had to do this with my son a few times when he would get stopped up like that. We tried it on our doctor’s recommendation and it works like a charm! Good luck!

  5. Bicycle the legs, prunes, apples and apple juice. No bananas or rice- they are the big blockers. I have had issues with my 4 year old from the day she was born. She still has to limit the bananas, cheese and bananas. Poor girl LOVES bananas and gets them about two times a month. Apple juice for one reason or another seems to be our regulator. Plus we have a prescription that goes in her drinks. If it gets too out of control and you do go to the doctor ask about Myralax. It is very super gentle on thier tummies and bodies- We love it here!
