Sucky Revival Week

Porter has decided to pay extra attention to his sucky this past week.  I’m not sure whats gotten into him… he used his sucky for the first few months after he was born, but kind of weaned himself off of it… he didn’t really need or want it after he was a few months old.  This was fine with us- we didn’t want to get stuck with a bad habit and a 3 year old who was addicted to a nasty sucky.  His sucky’s have remained a "toy" in his toybox… occasionally he’d play with it for a few moments (which is approximately how long he plays with any toy…) and pop it in his mouth once or twice and move on to the next toy.  Lately, however, he’s become fond of the sucky again, crawling around with it, playing with it longer than normal, and sucking on it.  I’m not sure what to think about this… hopefully its just a phase.  Maybe we should be smart adults and just throw the darn things away, duh!!

Here are some pictures that I used Brenda’s Color Pop conversion on… I bought her set of actions and have been pretty pleased.   (click on collage to see larger)

I’ve also been trying to come up with my own black and white conversion to use… up until now I’ve just varied my method when converting to black and white.  Sometimes I use the channel mixer, sometimes Johnny’s black and white conversion, sometimes one of Brenda’s black and white conversions.  I’d like to create my own "signature" conversion to use, so all my black and whites look somewhat uniform… I’m still tweaking, but what do you think so far?  I’m having trouble getting the high contrast I love without blowing out whites… I think the whites still look a tad gray…. hmm..

Ryan played basketball last night with some guys from work, and he took Porter to his parents so I could have the evening to myself, which I totally needed after dealing with Porter yesterday.  He was NUTS.  He screamed at everything, threw tantrums, whined ALL day.  The only time he was happy was when I took him outside in the swing (it was a GORGEOUS day…. THE perfect fall day).  He actually got his mouth popped because he wouldn’t stop screaming at me when I was trying to change his clothes… I felt bad, but my god, the kid needed to pull it together and straighten up.  (please don’t call CPS… I swear, it was just an attention-getting tap).  Then when we went outside he got me back and whacked me in the lip with the dolphin swing… gave me a fat lip!  HAHA.  Its still swollen today.  Ouch.  He was hilarious on the swing, though… he kept making these funny faces and puckering his lips out.  These pictures aren’t the greatest, but I think the’re too cute.

I went to Lansing all by myself, which was so so so nice.  However, I’m so used to shopping with a baby that I’ve come to rely on the stroller to hold my purse, a drink and all my bags.  On the way up to Lansing I tried to think of a way to take the stroller in and use it without looking like an idiot without a baby.  I did leave it in the car, but after going to Old Navy, I was wishing I had brought it in.  That store had some MAJOR deals.  All their clearnace stuff (which the clearance price was about 30-50% off) was an additional 50% off and then if you used your Old Navy Card you got another 20% off. I got about 30 items for $80!!

Wow, I’m thinking I need to make this post into chapers like Heather did… its getting long.  In other news, Heather and I decided on our weekend plans… we’re going to CHICAGO!!  YAAAY.  I’m so excited.  We’re driving to Indiana and taking the train to Chicago for the day and then staying in a hotel in Indiana and going to the outlet malls on Sunday.  The weekend is going to cost us more money than the original "girls weekend" plan, but when unreliable plans fall through I guess you just suck it up and do what you have to do.  The extra cost will be well worth it, since every mom needs an evening away from the munchkins.  Cost is not an object when sanity is involved LOL.  Its going to be a blast and I can’t wait!

  1. Your pics are great and I love the looks on the swing! Priceless.

I know what you mean for B&W conversions– I get it dark engough that I like it but then the white is grey. Is that cause of my exposure or just cause of contrast? I love that B&w one of p with the sucky.

I don’t think he would notice if you took them all away. It’s probably cause he’s teathing, but he’s old enough to start liking it and wanting it around more. I’m not a parent– but those are my thoughts 🙂
