Drama must be attracted to me

Notice how all my posts seem to be about drama in my life?  Well more came today.

I smell a rat.  Somewhere. I’m sure its someone I "know" from online… maybe not even chatted with them… but I am pretty sure its someone from a website with 3-letter initials.

I got a letter today, from the company who holds the copyright to the song "Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamawakakakaka (note: this is not the correct spelling… its long, really).  Apparently, they *miraculously* found my website online and reviewed their records to find out I never sought out a license to play that song on my website.  No, I’m not in trouble, I just have to take the song down… which is funny, as I had already changed it 2 weeks ago (so, Rat, if you are thinking your ratting-out-ness made me take it down, no it wasn’t that).

Now, let me explain a little further.  There’s a website I visit and a topic there that seems to bunch up a lot of panties is the topic of using copyrighted music on your website.  Big drama, lots of people trying to relate it to one thing or another… I won’t get into it… but anyway, I’m pretty sure is one of those people who saw my site, got their panties in a bunch and contacted this company.  There is NO possible way this company could have done a search to find my site.  The only way my site comes up in Google is by searching for "Nicole Photography Jackson MI" and I highly doubt this company was searching for that.

I think what is most irritating is that this person didn’t have the balls to just email me and say, "Hey, the fact that you have that song on your website, without permission, is just giving me one hell of a wedgie.  I feel its my personal responsibility to stick my nose into everyone else’s business and I just can’t contain my urge to notify the copyright holder, so- heads up."  But instead, they were a sneaky little rat with obviously too much time on their hands.

Well… anyway… thats the drama for today.  Wonder what it’ll be tomorrow.

  1. You have got to be kidding!?!? So stupid!

The lengths people will go. Imagine the kind of time they must have on their hands too- wouldn’t that be nice.

I will send you an email with a link to a super cool place to get music- for clicking on the link in the email- you and I will get a free song- value of $7. They have some beautiful stuff! I just got mine today- now i just need to figure out how to get in on my photography blog until I get my website up and running!

  2. I remember seeing a post on one of the photog boards about this song…someone contacted the company and the company said they didn’t care if photographers were using it, only if it was being sold! I thought that’s why you used that particular song?????
