PunkPot

Porter is upstairs in his crib.  He’s been up there for an hour… not crying. I thought he was asleep, but when I went to his door to listen, what did I hear?

"Rrruumm Ruuuumm."  "Ruuum Ruuuum"

HAHAHA.  He’s such a little stinker.  I think tomorrow, since I’ll be home all day, I’m going to attempt just one nap with him. I don’t know if he can go from 7 to 1 without sleep though…   If he goes down for just an afternoon nap, it has to be at 1. I get out of work at 12, and if I am quick about it, I can pick him up and be home by 1.  So… its 1:00 or he’s going to have to do two naps still. I hate these transitions.

  1. I’m sure it’d work okay if you put him down for a nap earlier when you’re home.
I don’t think it would be a big deal to lay him down at noon or even a tad earlier… especially while he’s transitioning into the one nap.
He’ll obviously be up and busy between 12 and 1 on the days you have to pick him up, so that’ll would keep him distracted enough to hold him off on those days.

And yeah, the late morning gets a little rough in the in-between, but if you can make it to lunchtime, then he’ll eat and should usually be good for a few more minutes of playing or reading books after that before he goes down.

Good luck! And remember it’s not usually an all or nothing thing. Most kids go back and forth between one and two naps for quite a few weeks. Maybe he’ll do good on one nap all week, and then by Friday when you’re home he’ll need to catch up a little and take two good naps for you. With both my kids it was just a day-by-day call for awhile.
    Here’s to good napping!!

  2. M transitioned to one nap at a year too. All of a sudden, he just wasn’t sleeping in his crib in the morning, just playing. So finally I just gave in and tried the one nap. In the beginning, he just slept for 1.5 hours and he was craaaaanky, took some time to get on a new schedule.

Now he sleeps 2.5 – 3 hours and man, it’s sweet!
