I warned Heather ahead of time that Potter Park Zoo wasn’t the best zoo we could go to- I didn’t want her to get all excited and then be let down by the…uh… lack of zoo. But, it was the only one within an hour and a half driving distance that was open until 5. It just so happened to be the closest, at a 30 minute drive, so thats where we went.
We got quite a few laughs at some of the "exhibits".
Check out the "Rural Backyard"….
Make sure you don’t miss the "Rock Pile" or the "Brush Pile" (aka… the zoo’s unfinished business in the form of a stick heap)
And what exhibit would be complete without "Water"
Quite a few of their animals were "out for surgery", they still had all their Christmas decorations not up, but leaning against various buildings. And check out what we found alongside the path…
Yes, those are Christmas lightbulbs. Just sitting in a pile amongst the leaves. Look how close they are to where kids can get to them… (thats Savannah climbing out of the rhino cage.. AHhh hahaha! No, really, thats just a fence between the walking trail and the llama fence)
Even though the zoo wasn’t quite spectacular, it made for a nice day.

We could open up our own rural backyard zoo exhibit here… I have a pile of branches behind our shed, and a puddle the size of a pond at the bottom of our driveway. And we could get all of Jackson’s finest to traipse through (barefoot and with obscenely obese children in wagons) so it’ll be an exact replication!
Hahahaa!!! I cannot believe that had signs that said “water”,”Brush pile” and “rock pile” That is pretty damn funny! OMG! I totally laughed out loud Nic. Heathers right, you could open your own zoo exhibit!
That really DOES seem like a ghetto zoo!! LOL
