Hell of a day today!

I’m going to be without a camera for about 2
weeks.  Or longer.

I’ve been suspecting some focusing issues with my camera lately, and today I
had Ry help me set up some "test" shots, and it pretty much confirmed
that my camera is having issues.

For you photographers (or anyone who
knows about cameras) out there… here’s whats happening… I had Ryan STAND
about 10 feet in front of our fence. I put the focus point ON HIS FACE and took
some pics, had him walk towards me, took pics… my shutter speed was between
1/300 and 1/500 (definitely fast enough for WALKING pictures) and the pics…
were out of focus, and odd parts of the picture were in focus.  I opened
it in ZoomBrowser… and it showed a completely DIFFERENT focus point being lit
up… a focus point that was over on the fence. WHAT?

So… my camera is
being overnighted to Canon tomorrow, and hopefully they’ll rush it back to
me.  I had 7 sessions set up for the Urban Child special I am doing, and I
am having to reschedule them till the end of April. I feel horrible. I also
feel like crap that I won’t have a camera for a few weeks!! I use my camera
almost every day.  UGH!

*ETA*
Then.. then… I was on my ProPhoto board, and I was venting about my camera being broke etc.. and Misty offered to send me her backup camera to use!  Oh my word isn’t she just the best!?  So, she’s mailing me her Canon 10D to use for a few weeks… GOD BLESS HER!!  That was my one highlight of the day. (That and pizza that Ryan and Porter brought home for dinner.. because I literally couldn’t think about anything but my freaking camera today).  So, now that I’ve emailed all my clients, I have to look like a big flake and tell them that I am, in fact, able to do their session the next two weekends.  UGH.

What else went wrong today..
*I got my new business cards, and they look like crap. They look like I printed
them off my home computer.  Vistaprints.com does not get my vote of
approval.  I got reimbursed, though, so that was good

*I went and got a new monitor from Best Buy.  I was basically flipping out about my camera, and my old, fuzzy monitor wasn’t helping. So, I thought maybe if I saw my pictures on a good monitor I’d realize it was all in my head.  Nope.  I got an LG 19" widescreen LCD monitor.  Not sure if I like it or not.  It seems like my pictures look grainy on it.  I dunno.  The guy at Best Buy said I could return it up to 30 days after purchase, so I’m going to try it out for a week or so…

Oh I’m sure there were other things, but man.  OH MAN.  Tomorrow I’m meeting up with Lauren and she’s going to let me borrow her 20D for a day, and use her lenses on it.  Since Misty is shipping her 10D to me, I think I might wait and ship my camera out on Weds, so I can try out Lauren’s lenses on it. Maybe its just my lens??  Oh why do I keep hoping?  I mean, you would barf if you saw the pics I was getting from this camera.  I am amazed that any from my session on Sunday turned out.

Ok, its past midnight. I’m exhausted.  I need to sleep and try to think of something other than cameras.  Or monitors.

The word of the day today… CRAP.

  1. I’m sorry… I hope your camera feels better soon. 😦 That sucks!

Glad to hear you have SEVEN urban sessions set up though – I can’t wait to see some of those proofs!

I have used vistaprint for our Xmas cards for the past few years, and was NOT very happy with them this year. I think I need to find a new place. I was wondering if you know of anywhere to get stuff printed? I need to start thinking about doing baby announcements soon! 🙂

  2. Oh man! What a bummer! I hope they can get is fixed soon.

You have the 30D, right? My dad has been having the same problems, but he hasn’t sent his back yet. He also shoots with the same lense you do.
