Evolution of a Toddler

I swear, as each day passes, Porter becomes more and more like a toddler.  Its insane.  I love watching him grow up, and the changes are so awesome, but WAAHH!! Where has my baby gone?

I’m going to bullet this post, as I identify all the new changes he’s been making

  • Tantrums.  I guess this is number one.  He is still pretty easy going with tantrums, but he does have them.  If he can’t have something he wants, or he’s taken away from something he isn’t supposed to have… he usually melts down, whines, sometimes cries or screams. It passes fairly quickly (less than a minute or two), but still… its a TANTRUM for pete’s sake!  When did this happen!
  • He follows directions!  This is too cool… My grandma has whipped him into shape… she makes him put his cup on the coffee table at her house.  Cool, we thought, but hell, I can’t even keep up with normal things, let alone making a one year old put his cup on the table.  Only, seriously, he does it!  I look at him from across the room, get a stern look on my face and say "Porter!  Come over here and get your cup and put it on the table, please!" and he stares at me for a second, and then toddles over and gets his cup and puts it on the table.  He loves it when a coaster is on the table, as he’ll make sure his cup is RIGHT ON the coaster.  So cute.

33007_001He shoves massive amounts of food in his mouth. Is this normal?  He is into this "stuff whatever I can in my mouth until I gag" thing.  In this pic, I swear, he has about 6 chunks of hot dog and 3 chunks of pear in his mouth.  And then, he gags.  Kinda funny.  Kinda not.
  • Separation Anxiety.  This is the worst for me.  He now gets so upset when I leave him to go to work. And even when we are at home and just run outside for a minute, its usually enough for him to flip out and fall apart.  It breaks my heart to think that he thinks we’re really leaving him.  Please tell me this passes… quickly….
  • He has lots of new words.  He says "Uh oh, Boom!" when things fall.  His newest word is Tractor said… "tra TUR". Other words he’s saying… "Boo!", Night Night "nie nie"  Shoe "soo", Sock, More "mo"

He climbs up on things.  He loves to wave at daddy/Grandma
McCombs/Grandma Main when they leave our house.  We have a footstool
that is near the window, and he has figured out how to climb up and get
    on it.
  • He is walking more like a toddler and less like a zombie.  He’s gotten so much better recently, now if only he can put his arms down by his sides HAHA!
  • He does NOT sit still.  He still gets one bottle a day, just before bedtime (its mostly ME hanging onto that last thread of baby, kwim?), and he just wanders the house with his bottle. If he’s really tired, he’ll crawl into one of our laps and snuggle for a minute or two, but it doesn’t last long.  The only time he sits still for any length of time is when we’re reading to him, which he LOVES.

I have pictures to add to this, but I’m on the laptop and I’m having issues getting connected to our network and using the documents from our desktop.  I’ll post them later.

  1. HAHA oooh dear. Those pictures of Porter are hilarious. I agree with you, the gagging is kinda funny…kinda not. Joss found out this morning that her fingers make her gag if back far enough. Funny to see the look on her face..but not funny to have her almost throw up. LOL At least you know he enjoys his food so much he doesn’t know what to eat first. 🙂 Hope you guys are having a great Friday!!

  2. Yeah, the separation anxiety comes and goes but trust me, after you are gone, they couldn’t care less. The people at the daycare explain it that they don’t have enough words to tell you that they are going to miss you, so that’s how they do it.

Morgan does the same thing with his food too, piglet LOL I think it’s a guy thing! I am constantly reminding him to slow down, chew, chew, chew etc but the minute I look away, he does it again.

Hate to tell you but the tantrums get worse HAHA Around 15 months for M was BAD. Now they are on the downward spiral, probably gearing up for full force at 2 or something! He’s easily distracted too though.

The best part is them following directions, I LOVE that! I make M get his own shoes, carry his own lunch to the car etc. He feels so proud too that it’s a win/win thing. They are so freaking cute, those toddlers (when they aren’t stuffing their faces or having a spazz LMAO)

  3. Okay, so I’m sitting here reading this going, check….check….check. Easton does all of this some good some bad right? However when people ask me how old he is I’ve been saying 2…..because it feels like he’s all ready hit the terrible two’s & he doesn’t turn for just over another month! What are we going to do with these boys…..seriously?

  4. Ha, I was nodding my head in agreement through this whole entry. Tiegan is exactly like this, no ifs or buts! Ha, it’s nice to know that she’s not the only one. My parents keep telling me my sister and I were NEVER like this at that age, lol.
