This morning Porter and I went to Best Buy to pick up my new monitor, and we had a little time to kill before meeting Lauren to pick up Aria. So, we headed into Walgreens to browse. We picked up a "La La" Coloring book (Elmo, for those of you who don’t speak Porterese yet) and a bag (err… couple) of Cadbury Mini Eggs. The checkout lady was oogling my adorable son, trying to get him to smile. As she succeeded (which is hard… Porter stares down strangers), she says..
"Oh, see I got you to smile! And OH! You already have crooked teeth! I bet mommy will be getting you braces when you’re bigger."
What do you say to that?
I just laughed (awkwardly) and said "Yeah, I had to have braces too when I was younger"
And then she went on to tell me how her granddaughter had to have braces, and how "she’s really small. Because she’s a gymnast (what??) and when she stopped gymnastics she grew 5 inches and gained 20lbs… that’s what happens!"
Weird.
Later this afternoon my mom brought pizza and her camera over (I’m shipping mine and my 28-105 lens back to Canon to be checked out… and as horrible as it will be to not have MY camera to use, I can’t bear the thought of not having ANY camera available in case I need to use it for "everyday" pictures). Mom caught some pretty cute snaps of me and Porter… I hardly have any pictures of me and Porter… so I surely love these… blur and point-and-shoot camera and all.
Mom left around 6, and I had felt like I was trapped in the house all day (it snowed today, by the way, so no playing outside). I had browsed Payless.com to look for boys sandals for Porter (have you ever noticed that they sell about 20 different girls shoes but only about 3 different boys? And boy sandals are so UGLY!) and found a few cute pair of shoes for him for summer. I liked these a lot and these were pretty good for sandals… better than the rugged velcro kind.
So, Porter and I packed up and had a great little evening at Payless. He ran around looking at the "ruumm ruuums"… they had Cars brand shoes and umbrellas and bags. The girl working was laughing at him and said "Do you think he’d like the Cars light up shoes we have over there? I think we have them in his size." to which I replied… "Yeah, he’d probably like them, but I wouldn’t! HAHA" No dorky character shoes in this house. Ick.
We ended up with three pairs of shoes. My favorites are these…
Are those not THE cutest boys sandals ever? I love em. He wears a 4/4.5 in shoes right now, but I decided to get all his summer shoes in a 5, as I’m sure he’ll grow quickly. These, however, are 6’s. The 5’s and 6’s both stayed on his feet, and he could walk equally well in them, so I went for the larger size. Maria, you’re probably having flashbacks of our Meijer-Converse-shoe-buying-escapade-when-we-were-10 and I bought my shoes like 3 sizes too big…
The second pair were these… they were on clearance for $7. These are a tad big on him now, but I figure in a few months, they’ll be fine… maybe…
And the third pair are these dorky-velcro-grandpa-looking-shoes (sorry grandpas out there… not knocking on you). I hesitated to even try them on him, but they were $5. FIVE dollars. And they do look darn cute with jeans to cover up the velcro. At least they don’t have characters on them, alright!?
Payless was Porter’s thrill for the day. He got a kick out of the wavy kids mirror. And this is hilarious… I was looking at shoes for me, and out of the corner of my eye I see Porter take off towards this couple who were trying on shoes down the aisle. He seemed pretty excited and even let out a little squeal. Odd, as if you’ll remember previously I said he’s kind of shy around strangers. Rarely does he smile at other adults… he usually stares and studies them. So, I thought it was a bit odd that he was so excited to see these people. And I looked up and realized… the guy looked a lot like Ryan. HAHA! He had a hat on and glasses (Ry wears glasses when he doesn’t have his contacts in) and kind of resembled Ryan. The guy was talking to Porter and laughing at him, and then Porter realized it wasn’t dada and stopped dead in his tracks, his jaw dropped and he just stared at him for what seemed like 5 minutes. It was too funny. We all got a good laugh.
And just a heads up, I put up some pictures from the other day Here

Awwwwww. I LOVE the photo of Porter grabbing at your nose. You chose some pretty great sandals. I noticed what you were saying the other day at Target, about there not being ANY sandals for boys. And to be honest, all the girl ones are pretty goofy-looking too (all cheesy with big huge flowers everywhere). Tiegan is always smiling and saying hi to everyone. It’s kind of weird, lol.. she’s just in love with everyone! Hoping that won’t make it too difficult for me to teach her to stay away from strangers….
I LOVE THOSE FLIP FLOPS!!! I would agree that they don’t have as cute of sandles for boys– but you did good!
