Have I ever told you how much I hate computers?

I mean, how much I F**KING hate computers????

Seriously.

This new laptop. Hate it.

McAfee ran out. I had no idea.  Yesterday I got a popup saying I had this NetWorm-i.Virus@fp so I checked McAfee and its expired.  So I went to Norton and bought Norton 360.

Ran the scan.  Brought back nothing.

So today I’m getting popups now for some SpyBot@MXt trojan and PSW something something trojan.

I find info online for how to get rid of the NetWorm, so I go through the directions to find out that they don’t work with Vista.  UGH!

I called Dell… the dink tells me they don’t support virus removal, "But I can help you reinstall Windows.  If its a new computer, you probably don’t have much on there to backup"

Uhm HELLO Lady… I don’t think system restore is exactly needed YET!  And do you know how complicated it would be for me to try to follow my own chickenscratch notes to re-setup my wireless internet?

So I tell her "I’ve had viruses before, and I’ve rarely had to wipe out my computer. I want a fix not a restore"

and she says "Well, like I said, we don’t support virus removal but we do have a department that does"

So, of course I said "Well, transfer me to the fricken virus removal department!"

and she tells me its a fee based service. Bite me!

I do a little more searching online.  Finding nothing.

I go to Nortons site, because, well, they’re my antivirus protection, RIGHT?  I get on some IM with this dude with a name I can’t pronounce (so maybe it was a dudette).  ANd it takes this person approximately 2.4 minutes to reply to each of my replies to them. Ugh.  It took me an HOUR to get through the conversation with them.

And what did they suggest?  "I can transfer you to our blah blah blah department and they’ll get onto your system registry and fix it all up for you" (so, it wasn’t exactly worded like that, but thats basically what it sounded like).

So, I ask "How much will this cost" (because I’m not stupid…even though these assholes just took $70 from me yesterday to PROTECT my computer, they obviously will want more money to continue doing their job)

He/She goes on to tell me how easy and convenient this will be for me.

And then he/she says "There will be a consultation fee" (or something)

Me:  "How much" (already!!!)

He/She"  $69.95

What the FUCK!  I just fucking paid $70 yesterday!  UGHUGHGUHG

So I said, "Forget it, I’ll do system restore.  Thanks, but no freaking thanks."

I hate computers.

  1. Sorry you’re having such a rotten time with your new laptop and vista and everythng. Don’t really know what to say, cuz we’ve never had any reason not to love ours (Dell also). Hope you can figure it out somewhat painlessly and have smoother sailing from here on out!!

  2. I was going to recommend the same thing Denise did! I love my AVG & it’s FREE 🙂 It came highly recommended from a computer tech who uses it alot for home installations & repairs. You may also want to get Ad-Aware & Spy-Bot Search & Destroy, if you don’t already have those applied as well-also free. I use both & have had no problems w/ my computer (knock on wood) Good luck!

  3. We also use the Grisoft program on each of our computers. Have you ever used http://www.symantec.com? You can do a free scan and it walks you through the fix. FREE!

We had MAJOR issues with our Dell after we got it, but, after fighting with them about it, we finally got it straightened out. Since then, we’ve had a couple of problems, but, nothing major. Let me just tell you though, Dell’s customer service is worse than any other that I’ve dealt with! I’ve also heard that Vista has a few kinks that haven’t been worked out.

Nothing but good words, I guess. Sorry.
