Want to join us at the zoo?

Can’t make it?  How about a virtual trip?

Ok, I’m being just plain dorky.  Today we met Heather and her kids at the Binder Park Zoo… their last trip before moving to St. Louis (*waaahhh*).

My morning got off to a rough start… well, starting with last night my monitor settings got reset and every picture ended up looking crazy on my screen.  THAT was stressing me out (any type of issue relating to pictures, my computer or my business really really stress me out).  I went to bed delirious with a headache and woke up feeling not much better.

Anyway, I seem to remember being able to pack up Avery and Aria at a seconds notice and heading to the zoo, yet now that I have my own son it took FOREVER.  Maybe because with A&A I arrived at their house already showered and dressed, and here, well, I have to get ready and entertain a 15 month old.

Blah Blah… I’m being boring.

On to the zoo… we met them at the zoo… which ended up being Porter’s first "memorable" trip… his first real trip was when he was just about 6 weeks old I think.  Easter, last year.  Well, Aria and Savannah were absolutely smitten with eachother, they just chatted away and ran from animal to animal, just happy to be together.  It was so cute.

The boys kind of hung out in their strollers… they got out a little in the petting zoo and kiddy area and to ride the carousel.

Heather and the kids had to leave a little after 11 so they could go meet Ryan for lunch in Kalamazoo.  Aria, Porter and I ventured off to Africa to finish up the day at the zoo.

Porter had his first ride on the tram to Wild Africa, and that went pretty well.  The zoo employees are really good at helping load strollers and kids.

The best part of Wild Africa is feeding the giraffes.

Now, these next images are hilarious.  Check out his face…

Now, here it is close up…

And another one…

Aria got a picture of Porter and I…

On the trail back from the giraffes, Porter kept sitting down a random spots… it was so funny.  He’d just walk by the rail and sit, then get up, walk a bit more and then sit again.  Then he went to the middle of the trail and laid down and said "Nigh nigh".  I think he was getting tired… HAHA!

After that, we went to the pavilion area to have lunch.

Oh, here’s a good story for you…

We went to the pavilion areas, and there were about 4 picnic tables in the shade and kind of near
the parking lot (like 30 feet from it), and a ways away from the pavilions with all the school field trip kids.  So we sit there.  Well, around the pavilions there are like 8 garbage cans…. but do
you think they even have ONE near this little group of picnic tables?
NOOOO..

We get ready to leave and I have a crapload of stuff to carry…
including all our food garbage b/c there is NO garbage can.  Porter is
tired and being a pill, so I have to carry him too.  I figured I’d get everyone in the car and then we’d drive by a garbage can somewhere.  We get back to the car, not that long of a
walk, and I just throw Porter and the drinks and shoes that were kicked
off and keys and everything into the back seat and close the door.  I
went up front to organize myself and sat the garbage down on the ground
(ticked and still not sure what to do with it as I didn’t want to walk
WAY over to the pavilion and leave the kids in the car).  I went back to
the back seat and open the door and Porter FLIPS out, literally, and
falls head first into the pavement. Nice.  Why don’t we split your brain in two while we’re at it?

His head was bleeding and he was bawling and I was

stressing out so I kicked the damn food under the car and left it.  I felt bad, but sheesh!  Make garbage cans accessible to people… people with KIDS come to the ZOO to EAT and have GARBAGE to throw away.

Then Porter had crapped his pants (I think the fall literally
scared the shit out of him… cause he didn’t stink when I had put him
in the car) so I had to change his diaper in the car and, remember, NO
GARBAGE nearby.  So I left with the dirty diaper in the car with us, the whole
way down the drive thinking, I should throw this damn diaper out into
their nice landscaping.  But then I felt bad that a dog or something
might eat it and die from ingesting the diaper.  So I ended up driving
into a gas station and tossing it into their big dumpster from the
car.

Ugh.  So, want to see Porter’s nice bashed up head?

About 2 minutes after we got on the highway, my backseat looked like this…

And the even better part?  I carried them both inside when we got home and they both slept for awhile longer!  Sweeeet.

  1. You had a very busy day!!! My goodness…on the go. I cant believe there were NO GARBAGE CANS!!! Come on people!

    Poor P’s head!
