6 Months

Porter is a bit past 6 months… about 6 1/2 months, actually.  He had is 6 month appointment yesterday.  He weighed 16lbs 3oz (25th %) and was 26 1/2 inches long (50th %).  He got 3 shots (poor baby) and other than that he seemed fine.

I’ve been a little concerned about Porter’s wrist twisting.  I kept thinking it might be an early sign of autism, although autism ususally doesn’t show signs until about 2 years old.  However, I asked Dr. VanWagnen about this and she said she wasn’t too worried, and that autism usually is a flapping motion.   She said we’d keep an eye on it, though.  That kind of made me nervous that she didn’t say "Oh that’s normal- I’ve seen babies do that before- they’ll grow out of it".  Hmm.  I’m sure it’s nothing, but it still makes me worried.

Anyway, other than that he’s great.

Here’s a little run-down of his life at 6 months:

  • Says "da-da-da-da" ALL the time.  No ma-ma-ma yet.
  • Talks ALL the time.  He is very vocal.  I think we’re going to have a little chatterbox on our hands.
  • Sits up alone (he’s been doing this for about 6 weeks) and can go from sitting to laying position
  • Is starting to figure out that he can pull up to things (he doesn’t pull himself up yet, but he scoots up to toys/his toy basket and will pull on the lid and tip it over, or scoot over to me and try to crawl into my lap)
  • Has started to go to "daycare"- my friend Heather watches him two days a week while I work, and he seems to enjoy playing with Sawyer.  I have a feeling these two boys will be quite the rough-and-tumblers.
  • Eats 3 meals a day
  • Is down to two naps (although sometimes takes a short evening nap)
  • Has started spitting with his tongue, and now likes to do this when he’s eating.  Not fun.
  • Likes to hear you whistle, and gets a big grin when he hears it.

Last night we went to Ryan and Heather’s for our first "Game Night".  The other two couples invited weren’t able to make it, but Ryan’s sister Jenn and her boyfriend Greg were there from Portland.  We played Apples to Apples, and I thought it was a pretty fun game.  We also played Scene It, which I kinda suck at.  We had a blast.  Hoprfully we can keep this "tradition" going!
