One more about carseats…

I just found this seat that has a "higher weight internal harness"….  the Safety 1st Apex.  Now, before anyone goes on thinking I’m promoting this seat… *I know nothing about it except that you can use the internal harness up to 65lbs, just like Britax seats, and its less than half the price. I know nothing about its safety ratings.*

Up until recently, I thought only Britax made the seats that allowed the harness to be used up to 65lbs, but now I’m finding quite a few more (found them on this site). P is only 25(ish) pounds right now, so we still have 15lbs before he outgrows the harness on his Alpha Omega.  But, at least I now know there are cheaper alternatives!

And… a video for you. A crash test with a 10 year old carseat.

  1. That video is terrifying! I wish you luck in finding a good carseat for P without spending $300. I have been reading up on seats, and it looks like there are a lot of good ones for considerably less. If you find one you like, let me know. 🙂

  2. Hi! Um, my comment isn’t really about carseats, but I was ordering books off half.com and think I got one from you! Haha, thought the book coming from user nbarczak out of MI was too much of a coincidence, small world! 🙂

  3. I’m interested to see how these carseats rate in crash tests. Matthew is about 24 1/2 pounds and 13 mos so we probably don’t have a long time before he outgrows his. We have an Evenflo Triumph DLX and LOVE it, but I think the weight limit is the same as most others.

  4. This comment has nothing to do with your post but I was just over at Kim’s new blog and was wondering if the Nicole commenting was you. I’m sure you know why I’m asking (nosy me!). I love checking yours and Kim’s blogs, when I’m having a bad day you cheer me up. Take care.

  5. While the weight limit on the Alpha Omega harness is 40lbs, most kids outgrow the height limit way before they reach 40 lbs. The top harness should be above his shoulders, not below. The very top slot on the Alpha Omega is only used for booster mode so it doesn’t count.
