the beginning

5.1.18. | The beginning of our journey to designing and building our new home. We are so excited to get this ball rolling and are feeling confident in the builder and architect we’ve chosen.  I’ve pretty much spent the past 2 years overanalyzing house floorplans online (I’ve printed probably 50!) and meshed many in Photoshop, attempting to create the perfect house that we think will suit our family of 6.   I didn’t “click” with a floorplan until I saw the Midway Farmhouse by Lane Myers in Utah.  The virtual walk-through of the first floor of this house is exactly what I have envisioned, so the sketch I’ve taken to the architect is closely based on this floorplan (the first floor).   The second floor (and the mudroom/laundry area) are up in the air.  I have no idea how to lay out 4 bedrooms and make a good “flow” of the mudroom/laundry.

Some of our “must have” things in this house (some of these sound like no-brainers… but you’d be surprised what our current house is missing!):
• Coat closet in foyer
• Linen Closet in all bathrooms
• Hall to Master Bedroom (door NOT off living room)
• 9-10′ main floor ceilings
• French Doors or Sliders in living room to a covered porch
• Living room walks out to back yard (not 2nd floor deck)
• Walk out basement off side of the house
• Garage near the kitchen
• Pocket door for pantry
• Double sinks in kids’ bathrooms
• Recessed fridge/flush with counters
• Desk/drop space by garage/kitchen
• Kids art+craft space/room near kitchen
• “toilet room” in master bathroom

Send all the tips and #wishwewouldhaves my way.
