july house update | fucking plot plan

Six weeks after our May update…. NO CHANGES!  Seriously.  What the fuck.  I’m using cuss words because they’re appropriate for my feelings and well, it’s one of my favorite words.   We’re basically back to square one with the plot plan.  Again.

Basically here’s what’s happened:

• Figured out plot plan, or so we thought. Said screw the pastures, we’ll just have land cleared and figure that out later.

• Had survey crew come out and re-plot out house and driveway

• Had perk test done 2 weeks ago and then had the survey crew come out and plot those 3 test spots on our plot plan.  Turns out they’re in the middle of where the driveway will go (it’s SO hard to tell where everything will go when its trees and knee high shrubs all over…. although I have my doubts that the survey crew are super accurate.  Not that they aren’t a legit company but my brain doesn’t comprehend how its laid out on paper vs how it looks in the thick woods… so may be my miscalculation but… I don’t know…).   SO… builder emailed back and said we need (insert like 40 things we need to have the surveyor do).   We need to reconfigure where the house is on the property as well as the driveway and barns (I’ve since said fuck the barns, I’ll board the horses until I figure out where barns will go), and that requires the surveyor coming out again.  Now the surveyor can’t come out until the middle of next week, and then it’ll be a week before he gets new site plans to us.  So we’re looking at a few more weeks. THIS IS JUST TO GET OUR WELL PERMIT.   Not water.  Electricity.  Building or anything…. just the fucking well permit.  I think.   GAWD.

• Last week we met with Shawn, from Arbor MasterTree Service to pick out trees we want to keep and an outline of where he’s clearing.   Again, felt like we were shooting in the dark because I can’t really tell how many acres we walked and how much would actually be cleared.  I thought we’d walked out pretty far but then found a stake for the end of one barn they’d originally staked out (we since changed those points) and realized maybe we aren’t out that far?   I don’t even know.  Regardless…. he’s coming out to clear brush and small trees and then we’ll check it out to see if there are any larger trees we feel like we should keep in addition to the ones we marked.  Our hope is to keep quite a few to keep it looking like a park-like setting vs clear cutting it all.  I hope it’ll be gorgeous when it’s done.  Who knows.   I’m worried about taking down too many trees (there are a ton of scraggly cherry trees, but we’re keeping as many of the bigger, thriving trees as we can and hoping they’ll grow healthier when they overgrowth is cleaned out).  The tree clearing is probably the highlight of the past 6 weeks.  Psh.

• No update on our construction loan… which was turned in like 5 weeks ago and should be done by now.   But I guess we don’t need or want that ready to close until we have other stuff finalized.

So… basically I’m not sure we’ll even break ground this year at this rate.  It’s taken 2 months to get the damn well permit stuff ready (and it isn’t even ready!), so I’m assuming if everything ends up taking this long, well… good luck breaking ground this year.    I basically browse Realtor.com every week to check for potential properties that we could buy and renovate and say fuck building because I’m not sure I’m cut out for this.
